Both yesterday and today marked the most exciting days of my co-op so far- I finally got to put my U2F tokens together!

 

After figuring out the reflow oven (a set-up walk through will be in another blog post), and building a stencil, it was finally time to put everything together. First, I watched this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDIqtGMROjM about spreading soldering paste so I had a technique and then I just kind of went from there. My first complete token had a few bridges on it that I’ll have to take a soldering iron to to fix, but the second looked absolutely perfect. It just goes to show, with a little learning, building your own token is extremely easy. 

The most difficult part ended up working the toaster “reflow” oven. Apparently the temperatures on the dials are arbitrary, because the temp. ran at a different rate every time I used it. It would even go past it’s max- go figure! All in all, it’s been a very successful last couple of days. I’m excited to see what happens next!
